What is Acne? Acne is the visible end result of inflamed hair follicles, or pores, caused by excess sebum or dead skin cells. Sebum is oil in the skin and, in combination with skin bacteria, results in inflammation and pimples.
Causes of Acne:
Hormonal changes - during puberty these changes cause an increase in oil production. Adult acne is common in females and is due to hormonal fluctuations from premenstrual changes, pregnancy and menopause.
Stress - While stress does not cause acne, it does aggravate the acne condition. Stress causes hormonal fluctuations and increased sebum production.
Bacteria - Can come from hands touching or scratching face, phone use, and wearing hats.
Family History - One of the main causes of acne is family history. Acne does tend to run in families.
Foods - There is evidence that links skim milk, cottage cheese, & cream cheese to acne. In addition, foods high in carbohydrates are another contributing factor.
What to do to help prevent Acne?
1) Include green leafy vegetables in diet. Drink plenty of water to flush toxins out of your body.
2) Change pillowcases often, dead skin cell, dander, mites and dust can all clog pores and result in breakouts.
3) Exercise moderately as it helps in blood circulation and elimination of toxins.
4) Do not wash skin excessively. Twice a day, with an organic blemish cleanser such as Parisian's Pure Indulgence "Clairifiant" is perfect. Be sure not to use abrasive cleansers. Treat breakouts with plant based products that contain ingredients like Activated Charcoal (draws toxins out of pores), and organic salicylic acid (antimicrobial).
5) Choose "non-comedogenic" products to reduce acne. These are products that do not clog pores.

Today was a great day! First of all, I'm feeling better after one full week of being under the weather. Next, my daughter Brianna and I spent the entire day at the Natural Products Expo West. Being around so many business owners that believe in the importance of keeping their products pure, organic, and green, makes me realize what good company I'm in.
First thing I did was look up someone very special to the beauty Industry and to Parisian's Pure
Indulgence, Dennis and Kayla F. Kayla has been a mentor to me in many ways (although she is much younger than I). She is incredibly knowledgeable, successful, and a lovely, down to earth woman. She is also the formulator of many of my products. I rely on her expertise often.
I remember her encouragement, when five years ago, I called her and told her about the little sugar scrub I had just created. I was asking her questions about how to best preserve my sugar scrub, naturally. She may not even remember that call, but she was so helpful, and I soon realized she was someone I could trust. We have gotten to know each other over the years, but today was the first day I got to meet her face to face.
We learned we have something else in common, our love for Chocolate! Kayla introduced me to her favorite Organic Chocolate by a company called "Equal Exhange." It's obvious that Kayla is as passionate about health & well-being as I am. She shared with me that she does not eat any refined sugars and bakes with agave instead. I was surprised to learn she even has time to bake!
This high energy woman championed indie businesses last year, when she traveled to Washington DC to challenge the FDA Globalization Act (with a group of 3 other dynamic women). This act would have put many boutique cosmetic companies out of business. Today, it appears some changes have been made to the Act. Our voice was heard!
We had a chance to sit down and discuss the climate of our industry in this economy. We both shared that while people are being more cautious with their spending. They are indeed still spending on skin care. The "Natural" skin care companies seem to have an edge, as more and more, customers are becoming aware of what they want, and don't want in their skin care treatments.
One of the first things Brianna and I noticed when we met Kayla, is how beautiful and flawless her skin is. Hmm, wonder why :-)

How would some organization help you right now?
I'm preparing to see my accountant this week, and right now I'm contemplating the bottom of my desk. Hmmm, used to be here somewhere under all this paperwork. Makes me realize how a bit of year round organization would make this job easier and my desk more visible!
One of my favorite things to do with this blog is to feature other entrepreneurs and what makes them do what they do. I would like to introduce a Mom who takes organization very seriously and because of it, helps other Mom's lives run smoother. Meet Carrie, founder of "Mama likes it easy."
Carrie and I met at a Heartlink Networking Group meeting (notice our name tags). I could see right away, Carrie has a passion for helping others. She is a dynamic young woman who inspires me to become more organized. Here's her story:
When my children were younger (have 3), I noticed there was a large selection of day planners available, but none of high quality for Mothers. The best I could find were cheap, plastic spiral bound planners, with nothing special to offer. Running a home is a full-time job! Just an an executive needs a planner that serves all his or her business details, Moms need to treat their "job" more seriously. I designed a durable (ready to sustain coffee spills and kid snot) yet luxurious, three-ring binder, stuffed full of planning categories just for Mothers.
I asked Carrie what the biggest challenge of owning her own business has been: The biggest challenge I have faced in my business has been thinking of creative ways to market my planners in a difficult fiscal economy. I'm making good progress, but wow, I didn't think it would be this much work!
The biggest success I have had, is hearing from customers who purchase my products and are now coming back for more. They LOVE their planners. It's thrilling to develop a product & logo completely from scratch and see women actually become better moms by owning my planner. My customers have expressed that they are much more productive in their day-to-day lives, less stressed, and make better use of their time and money. This is what it's all about for me--helping others Moms.
One of the things that impresses me about Carrie's planners is the category for "Usernames" and "Passwords." Such a great idea! How many of us can quickly find this info? Mine is scribbled all over a folder! Visit Carrie's web site, www.mamalikesiteasy.com to see her fabulous "Stress-reducing" planners and more.
What part of your life could use a little organization? For me, it's more like, what part of my life "couldn't" use more organization.
