Steve Casey ~

  I met Steve two years ago, when I was searching for the best medical insurance as a self employed business owner.  I immediately noticed how educated Steve was in the medical industry.  My daughter Brittany and I have been doing business with Steve for over two years now, and appreciate the personal attention he gives to his clients.  If I have a health care question, he responds quickly, and has an in depth knowledge of the health care industry, and the companies he represents.  I highly recommend him for any of your health care needs. 

We asked Steve to share a little about himself...

  I live in Calabasas with my wife Deidre and our four children; Danny 17, Tyler 17, Brier 15 and Madison 7.  My hobbies are varied time allowing, but I'm an avid runner at 5 miles daily and I love to work out at the health club.  I use to be a pilot, but these days I'm happy flying on my computer via Flight Simulator.  And finally, I'm into nutrition, vitamins and a holistic approach to life.

I am a Field Underwriter and Agent in the healthcare industry here in California.   My focus is on helping consumers find the right health insurance plan that matches their budget and lifestyle needs.  Health insurance has become quite complicated due to so many choices and how the plans are presented. Once the client is underwritten, I am available for assistance 24/7 on a variety of issues such as doctor referrals, claims reviews and strategies on how to effectively use the plan.

 I went into the healthcare industry after 20 years in corporate management for an aerospace firm and then onto investment banking.   I wanted to find a new career opportunity where I could earn residual income.  Also, I get a lot of satisfaction with helping people get coverage.

What challenges have you had to overcome in your business world?

 

  The challenges in being self employed in the healthcare industry is how to effectively differentiate myself from other agents in the marketplace.  To me, its all about customer service.....when the client calls no matter what the issue is...respond ASAP.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

 

  In five years, I see myself having a much greater market share through diversification into new healthcare plans in addition to offering upgrades for existing plans.

I'm happiest when.....

 I'm eating Chocolate, Chocolate, and more Chocolate...those who know me well (or who follow me on Twitter and Facebook), are probably  sick of hearing me talk about my love affair with Chocolove's Organic Raspberry Chocolate , but I just can't help myself.  After all, how many chocolate bars come with sappy love poems on the inside wrapper?  For this hopeless romatic, it's a match made in chocolate heaven.

 

My house is full of people having a good time - I've always enjoyed entertaining, and I'm at my best with lots of people I enjoy around me, good food to eat, and lots of laughter.  Did I mention lots of good food:)  This is probably why I enjoy the Parisian's Pure Indulgence Spa Parties so much.  We have so much fun at these events. The women leave feeling relaxed and pampered, with glowing skin.

I'm  Laughing- Whether it's a funny story, funny movie, a slightly twisted political cartoon (like those my friend Debbie Z sends me regularly), or laughing at myself and some of the wacky things I do, laughing makes me happy.

I've helped someone -  One of the most satisfiying things about my business, is hearing how PPI products have helped someone with a skin care issue. Especially people with sensitive skin, who have not been able to use other products successfully.  It makes me very happy to help.  I also get enjoyment from knowing I've helped someone else with their business.  It's why I continue to blog about others.

Listening to music - Music ministers to my soul...I enjoy music that speaks to my heart or that just makes me want to move.  Contemporary Christian is my favorite.  Right now I love anything by Matthew West.  I'm also enjoying romantic songs by Keith Washington.

Getting dressed up and going out to a great new restaurant - When I was a young girl, I loved to play for hours and hours with my Barbie dolls.  I made up many stories and places Barbie was going, and dressed her accordingly.  Barbie loved to dine, and so do I.  I am passionate about food, and don't like to waste calorie's on anything less than wonderful.  This is why you will rarely see me at a fast food restaurant.   I have been fortunate enough to have dined in some fabulous restaurants and look forward to continuing the tradition.  Yes, food makes me happy, happy.  I always tell my friends, the only reason I exercise is so I can continue to EAT whatever I like.

The power of Networking...are you in?

  A group of dynamic business women gathered at the home of Brittney Mclaughlin this week, to learn about each others businesses, and to support one another.  I consider it a privilege to share the stories of some of these wonderful women.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivated you to go into the Real Estate business?

 

  I started out in real estate as an assistant, then got my own license when I saw so many people out there stressed out by the process of selling or buying a home. I felt I could offer an informed and comforting alternative to the "get a commission at any cost" attitude. I've always had a passion for the home, including the "technical" aspects of the making of it, such as interior design, landscaping, welcome curb appeal and all that. With a background in theater as a director, I feel I can bring a unique perspective to the real estate relationship. I have an eye for detail, I can improvise, and I can take the long view. I'm patient and a good listener, and respect the individual. It can be a creative and fun process too, if you're prepared for it.

 

What challenges have you had to overcome in order to keep moving forward in your business?

Getting the word out about what I can offer that is different from all the others in a saturated industry has been a challenge. About 3000 people per week were taking the real estate exams in Los Angeles alone during the boom time. So I tried to get to know other agents, learn as much as I could (still do), treat everyone fairly (what goes around, comes around), and determine that I'll be around for the long term.

 

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now business and personally?

 

In 5 years I hope to be benefiting from the foundation laid during these leaner times, with referrals from family, friends, and past clients. I want to grow in grace. Life is shorter than we think.

Skin Care tips for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive Skin?  Then you want to avoid...

1. Sunscreens that contain anything other than Titanium and Zinc Oxide as the active ingredients.  It is nearly impossible to have a reaction to these two sunblock agents.

2.  Avoid cleansers and toners that contain alcohol or benzoyl peroxide as these tend to be too strong for sensitive skin.

3. Thinking you're safe with products claiming to be "Hypoallergenic" - Hypoallergenic skin care products are not necessarily safer for sensitive skin. The FDA states there are no federal standards governing manufacturers’ use of the term “hypoallergenic” -- so it can mean whatever a particular company wants it to mean.

4. Products with synthetic fragrances.  According to Better Health Magazine, "Fragrance in personal-care products is the second most common cause of allergic skin reaction (after nickel in jewelry)."

5. Parabens are a collective group of preservatives that have been used by the cosmetic industry for years to reduce bacterial growth in their products. Many Parabens start with the prefix of methyl, ethyl, butyl, or propyl and are irritating to the skin as well as controversial to your over all health.

6.  Choose wisely when in comes to exfoliating scrubs.  Many scrubs are irritating to sensitive skin. Ground seeds, such as apricot, almond and walnut seeds are too harsh because they have rough edges, and can actually cause tiny cuts in the skin. 

7. Any product with colorants in it.  Color looks appealing in a jar or bottle but dyes or colorants can cause irritation from moderate to severe.
